A Little Background into NurseryPeople.

Posted by Chris (@chris) 3 years ago and currently has comments.
In this post, I wanted to give you a background into the NurseryPeople Website.

For over 7 years, I have worked with Garden Gate Nursery, helping as a team member on their crew, then a team lead and an interim manager for some time. My dad started the nursery and I grew up helping in the summers as well. You can see their page on our website here.

When I moved to Mexico in the fall of 2017 to marry my wife, I started a small web design company, and continued helping Garden Gate more on the marketing side. I built a website for Garden Gate, and I continue to help manage their website as well as do other work for companies from Mexico.

Part of my work for Garden Gate is doing SEO. This is where I try to build the online presence for their website in search engines like Google, or Bing.

Last fall, I was looking for sites where I could list Garden Gate as a nursery in order to create back-links, which help with seo, and build brand awareness for their company. When I was searching, one of the first sites I came across was this website, but at that time it was on the domain, plantsearchonline.com.

The website was a little old, and it looked like it hadn't been updated for a while, so I contacted the website owner to see if they would be interested in selling the website to me.

The website owner said that they would, but I didn't have the cash on hand to buy the site. *I will say... It wasn't expensive, I just didn't have the cash to put out into the site.

Later, I called up my dad and told him about the opportunity. I sold him on the idea of purchasing the website, and partnering with me on this project. He came up with the cash, and we put the deal together over the next couple weeks.

The next 6 months I worked on the new site almost every day. I had some web development experience, but I had never built an application like this site, so it was a challenge, but I learned so much. In April, we released the first version of this site, and last month, we moved the old website domains over to nurserypeople.com.

I am so thankful to have the opportunity to help the nursery industry in this way. I'm also so grateful for my dad who made it possible; Garden Gate Nursery will always be featured on the site, and I recommend checking my families nursery out. They grow super high quality container trees, and I think you will enjoy working with them.

I am also working to actively make improvements to the site. If you see something that isn't right, or a change you think should be made, please contact us through the contact form on this website. I do my best to read each request, and I most definitely take input into consideration as we continue development on the website.

Thanks so much for being a part of the movement!
