Carya aquatica (Water Hickory)
Carya aquatica is a large deciduous tree that is native to the southeastern United States. It has a round shape with dense foliage and can reach a mature height of up to 60 feet and a width of 50 feet. The leaves are pinnately compound and have a dark green color, turning golden yellow in the fall. The Water Hickory produces edible nuts that are enjoyed by both humans and wildlife. It prefers moist or wet soils and is commonly found along the banks of rivers and streams.
