Castanea pumila, also known as Allegheny Chinkapin, is a small, deciduous tree that produces edible chestnuts. It is native to eastern North America and can be found in the Appalachian Mountains. The tree has a rounded shape and grows to a height of 6-10 feet. The leaves are dark green with toothed margins, and in the fall, they turn yellow or orange. The tree produces small, prickly seed capsules that contain one to three chestnuts.
