The Corylus cornuta californica, also known as the Western Filbert or Hazelnut, is a deciduous shrub native to western North America. It features dark green leaves and produces clusters of yellow male catkins in the spring. Female flowers are inconspicuous but give way to small edible nuts in the fall. This shrub can reach a height of 10-15 feet and a width of 8-10 feet.
