Larix laricina (Tamarack / American Larch)
Larix laricina, commonly known as Tamarack or American Larch, is a medium-sized deciduous coniferous tree that belongs to the Pinaceae family. It is native to North America and is known for its unique characteristic of being a deciduous conifer, where it sheds its needle-like leaves in the fall. The tree has a slender, pyramidal shape and its needles turn a beautiful golden color in the autumn before shedding. Tamaracks are typically found in wetland areas and are important in maintaining biodiversity in those habitats.
