Leymus/Elymus mollis (American dune grass)
American dune grass, scientifically known as Leymus (formerly Elymus) mollis, is a perennial grass native to coastal dune ecosystems in North America. It forms dense clumps of gray-green foliage with arching narrow leaves that have a soft texture. In summer, it produces tall flower spikes with narrow seed heads that sway gracefully in the wind. This grass is an important plant for stabilizing sand dunes and providing erosion control along coastal areas.
