Licania michauxii (Gopher Apple)

Gopher Apple, scientifically known as Licania michauxii, is a small, evergreen shrub native to the southeastern United States. It has leathery, glossy leaves and produces small, white flowers that bloom in clusters during spring. The plant is known for its spreading growth habit and its ability to tolerate poor, sandy soils. Gopher Apple is also a favorite food source for gopher tortoises, hence the common name.
