Podophyllum pelatatum (Mayapple wildflower)
Podophyllum pelatatum, commonly known as Mayapple wildflower, is a low-growing perennial herbaceous plant native to eastern North America. It features large, umbrella-like leaves that emerge in a whorl from a single stem and grow up to 18 inches tall. In the spring, solitary white flowers with six petals bloom underneath the foliage, followed by green fruits that resemble small apples. These fruits are considered poisonous to humans but are enjoyed by wildlife.
