Prosopis pubescens (Screwbean Mesquite)
Prosopis pubescens, commonly known as Screwbean Mesquite, is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It has twisted, spiraling seed pods that resemble corkscrews, hence its common name. The tree displays a dense, rounded crown with attractive grayish-green foliage and small yellow flowers. Its bark is smooth and light-colored. Screwbean Mesquite is a very adaptable plant, tolerant of heat, drought, and a wide range of soil types.
