The Prunus besseyi 'Pawnee Buttes', commonly known as the Western Sandcherry, is a deciduous shrub native to the central and western United States. It has an attractive rounded shape with dark green leaves that turn shades of red and orange in the fall. In spring, it produces small white flowers that give way to black cherries that are loved by birds. This plant is drought-tolerant and can grow in a variety of soil conditions.
