Prunus tomentosa, commonly known as Manchu or Nanking Cherry, is a deciduous shrub with an interesting spiny branching pattern. It produces beautiful pink flowers in early spring which give way to small, dark red cherries that are edible and great for making preserves or sauces. The shrub has a dense, spreading habit and makes an excellent hedge or border plant.
