Quercus lyrata (Overcup Oak)
Quercus lyrata, commonly known as Overcup Oak, is a medium to large-sized deciduous tree native to the southeastern United States. It is known for its distinctive acorns that are almost entirely enclosed in a large, warty cup, resembling a small bowl. The tree has a rounded crown and dense foliage of shiny, leathery, dark green leaves with irregular lobes. Overcup Oak is well-suited for wet areas such as floodplains and bottomlands.
