Rubus alleghaniensis (Allegheny Blackberry)
Rubus alleghaniensis, commonly known as Allegheny Blackberry, is a deciduous shrub native to eastern North America. It is a member of the Rosaceae family and is closely related to raspberries and other blackberries. This plant produces arching canes covered in thorns and deep green serrated leaves. In the summer, it bears clusters of white, five-petaled flowers followed by juicy blackberries that are sweet and tangy. Allegheny Blackberry is a vigorous grower, reaching a height of 6-8 feet and spreading 4-6 feet wide.
