Sassafras albidum (Silky Common Sassafras)
Sassafras albidum, commonly known as Silky Common Sassafras, is a deciduous tree native to eastern North America. It is known for its aromatic bark, leaves, and roots which have a distinct sassafras smell. The leaves of this tree are unique as they exhibit three different shapes on the same tree - lobed, mitten-shaped, and three-lobed. It has small, yellow flowers that bloom in the spring, followed by dark blue fruits. The tree provides excellent shade due to its dense foliage.
