Schoenoplectus americanus (Three Square Rush)

The Schoenoplectus americanus, commonly known as the Three Square Rush, is an aquatic plant that thrives in wetland areas such as marshes, swamps, and along the edge of ponds. It has triangular, hollow stems with dark green leaves that can grow up to three feet long. In the summer, it produces small, inconspicuous flowers at the tip of the stems.
