Silphium asteriscus (Cup-plant)

Cup-plant, scientifically known as Silphium asteriscus, is a tall perennial plant that belongs to the Aster family. It is characterized by its large cup-shaped leaves that collect water, hence the name Cup-plant. The leaves are arranged in opposite pairs along the stem, and the plant produces bright yellow flowers with a star-like appearance. Cup-plant is native to eastern and central North America.
